I got some very exciting news today in the mail. I've been accepted to Boise State University, and I start in Janurary. In 1995 I graduated with an Associates from Ricks College (now BYU-I). And I haven't been in a classroom as a student since. It's a little nerve-racking. I'm not only a soon-to-be single mother but now I'm going to be a student also. WOW!! That's a lot to have on my plate.
I'm very excited about going back to school. I've wanted to go back for years. And while I thought it would be a few more years before I'd be going back to finish up my education, life changes and I've learned to roll with it.
So that's my new exciting life changing news. Check back with me by the end of Jan. I may not be so very excited by then.

Glumpiness
Is it okay to admit that I'm feeling glumpy? You know a cross between gloomy and grumpy. It's really the best way to describe how I feel right now. What to do, which way do I choose to go? How much choice do I really have? So many questions, so few answers. I hate that part, I want answers. Even though I know that some questions will go unanswered well for the rest of my life, I still want answers. I want to know that life will have a happy ending, but I'm scared that my happy ending has passed, that it's too late for that. Will I forever be searching for it, never to find it?

Summer is Almost Over, isn't it?
This summer has been one of craziness, all kinds of craziness. We spent most of the beginning of summer getting used to the heat. Monday thru Friday the kids and I spent atleast 2 hrs each day at the park. It was great, I bought a beach umbrella and zip-tied it to the chainlink fence at the park. In Caldwell we get some big gusts of wind, which one day early on in the summer we found out as our umbrella went flying over the fence into a irrigation ditch. Thankfully it wasn't too full of water and the umbrella survived intact. Anywhoo in our area they serve lunch at the park daily which is always a big hit with the kids. And mommy got to sit and read or visit with other mommies while the kids ate and played.
We did 4 wks, yes 4wks of swim lessons. And while the kids had a blast playing in the water and learning a few things about swimming, mommy was really tired and swears never to do that again.
One of the theaters in the area provided free kids movies 3 days a week. It was lovely each week we had 2 movies to choose from and if we wanted to see both we could just go 2 different days the week. What could be better than free movies when it's hot outside.
The beginning of August we moved into Boise. It was a long drawn out move and we are all glad it's over. Now is the fun part of unpacking and getting truly settled in.
The kids start school monday August 31st. And while I'm excited about it, part of me is also sad. My baby is starting kindergarten. Miss Magoo is over the moon excited about starting school (though she has also confessed to a little part of her is still shy about it also). She will get to take the bus to school and have snack too. PJ is starting 3rd grade, and informed me it's not so exciting anymore. Yesterday we went to their new school and met their teachers, whom I may already be in love with. They both seem so very kind and excited about having my kids in their class. The school they will be attending is small, there are only 2 kindergarten classes one am and one pm. And the rest of the grades only have 2 classes per grade. None of the classes seem to be too large, so all looks well in that area.
Now we just have to wait for Monday to come to take the mandatory "first day of school" photos. And drive them to school, I can't let my babies take the bus on the first day after all.

Miss Magooisms part II
This evening during dinner I asked the kids what they learned in their lessons yesterday in primary. Miss Magoo was very eager to tell me all about her lesson on the "grass plates".

***I DID IT***
So a month ago (really 4 wks, but that's the same thing right?) the kids and I decided to forgo fast food/soda for a month. The goal was also to cut out eating out, take home food that we/I hadn't prepared. I wasn't really sure that we'd make it, but we did, sorta. See twice during those 4 wks Mr. Man did bring home pizza, but to be fair it wasn't just pizza, it was PIZZA the Flying Pie variety. And if you have ever eaten Flying Pie pizza you know it's really PIZZA!!! Totally doesn't count as fast food, and besides I didn't really ask him to, he suggested it and since he wasn't part of the original pact I thought I'd let it slide. And one other time Mr. Man and I went to lunch, a rarity in our house Mom & Dad going to lunch, shocking! But I was totally faithful to not drinking soda the entire 4 wks, I didn't even do Sonic's strawberry/limeades which even as I type those words I'm drooling. So even though the 4 wks (month really) is up I'm going to continue to see how long we can go with out. And while I didn't do as my mom suggested (putting the money I would have spent on fast food/soda in a jar) I have noticed a little extra in my checking account the last month, always a nice benefit.

Today after church Miss Magoo announced that she doesn't get candy from her teacher on fast Sundays only on the slow Sundays. Love it!

Cleaning House
Well I guess now that my kids know I can publicly announce ... We are moving... I know big surprise to most of you. I think all 4 people that read this 3 already knew that we were moving. We aren't making a huge move. Currently we live in Caldwell, and we are moving about 30 minutes away to Boise, YEAH!! I am actually very excited about the move, there are a ton of positives and very little negatives. We will be way closer to Mr. Man's work, his parents, and shopping. Right now Mr. Man has about a 45 minute commute to work, I know way to long, big pain in the behind. We are hoping to find a place to rent within 5 to 15 minutes of his work, how awesome would that be, awesome let me tell you!!! We won't be actually making the move until the end of July so we have some time until the big day. We want to be moved and settled before the kids start back to school at the end of August.
I decided to go ahead and register Miss Magoo for kindergarten here just in case something changes at the last minute and she needs to go to kindergarten here. And after we got her registered I was even more happy to be moving. They are changing things for the kindergartens this year. They are doing full day kindergarten, but the kids won't go to school 5 days a week. They will be on one of two schedules Tuesday & Thursday, or Weds. & Friday and ever other Monday. Craziness, insanity I tell you, what are they thinking??? They are thinking that by having the kindergartens on this schedule they are saving money on busing the kids to school. Anyway one more reason to be happy to be moving.
The last time we moved (from Utah to Idaho) we were moving with Mr. Man's job, and it was lovely. They had packers come in and pack everything, and then a day later they had movers come in and load everything into their HUGE truck. Then 3 days later we met them in Idaho and they unloaded all our stuff and even put our beds together and out furniture where we wanted it. I was spoiled and it was fantastic. The only down side to them doing all that was I didn't get to do the de-cluttering that normally goes on when I pack for a move. So this time I'm starting early. Yesterday I went through all the totes in my garage and was ruthless. I whittled my 12 totes down to 9. I have 4 huge bags for DI and 3 empty totes sitting in my family room waiting. I've decided that there are lots of things in my house that we won't need for the next few months so they can be packed early. I am actually excited about the chance to de-clutter and de-junk my house. Nothing is safe, nothing will be spared, if it's broken, not played with, unused it will be gone! If it's unworn, outgrown, or just plain not necessary it's GONE. Whoopee, watch out house here I come.

Fasting From Fast Food
oh say that title 5 times fast..
On Wednesday after one to many trips to Little Ceasers for their $5 pizza ( who can resist such a cheap quick dinner, not me) I decided that I'd had enough. I feed my kids way too much fast food. You try resisting Mcd's half price tuesday's where I can get 2 happy meals for the price of one. Okay to be honest it's maybe once a week, but I still think that's too much. Maybe it's was the few weeks leading up to Wednesday that was the breaking point. During our trip to Utah we ate so much more fast food than normal, and it was making all of us sick. And I was getting tired of each day as it gets close to dinner they start off asking for happy meals or pizza.
The kids and I agreed to cut out eating out (and take-out) for the next month. PJ also reminded me that means no quick trips to Sonic's during happy hour for my not quite daily fresh fruit slushee (that kid thinks too much). We'll see how the next month goes. Miss Kitti suggested keeping some freezer meals ready for those days that I would normally be tempted to head to the drive-thru. And also per Miss Kitti's suggestion we'll be pushing the H2O alittle harder around our house too.
I'll get back to you in a month to see how it goes, hopfully we'll be a few pounds lighter and a few bucks richer.

Why oh why oh why...
Why is it that the minute I get on the phone my attention is needed asap by one if not both of my kids. They could have been playing happily together or seperatly for the last 30 minutes ( hey it does happen once in a blue moon). But the minute I say hello they are glued to my side until I hang up.
How is it that my son can remember every little thing he thinks I've ever "promised " him, but can never remember to flush and wash after he uses the bathroom?
Or that when his sister gets to do something fun while he's at school life isn't FAIR, but if he gets to do something fun at school and she gets upset, oh well he's in school and that's life??
Why is it the Mr. Man can never remember to put the seat down but can remember the stats to any football game ever played in the history of football, as well as all the names of those plays??
And why is it that my children seem to go deaf when I ask them to pick something up, but if I were to whisper "ice cream or candy" from my bedroom with the door shut they come running?
Could someone please explain it to me, I'm a little lost here...

Spring Break
I decided to take advantage of PJ have 10 days off from school for spring break and head to Utah to visit my family. First though we had Mr. Man's older brother's wedding to attend. Once the wedding and reception were over the kids and I headed down to the Provo area. We had a great time. The kids got to play with their cousins, and I got to visit with my siblings. I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters who all live in the Provo area. And even though I was there back in August for a couple of days, I still had missed them. I tried to not over plan our days, but we still had plenty to do.
Monday one of my sisters, a sister-in-law, I and all our kids went bowling. My kids had never been before and had a blast. And then we spent FHE at my older brother's house with most of my siblings that lived in the area along with my nieces, my one niece's husband and cute new baby.
Tuesday I watched my kids play with their younger cousins while my sister and I ate Kneader's sandwiches (so yummy) and sorted legos.
Wednesday my sister-in-law and I took my kids and her 2 youngest to Thanksgiving Point and toured the Dinosaur Museum.
Thursday afternoon the kids and I headed to West Valley to have lunch with some of friends from our old ward. I was great to visit/gossip with them while our kids played. Made me a lot homesick for my old ward. Thursday evening my wonderful brother watched my 2 crazy kids so I could spend the evening with my sisters/sister-in-laws to celebrate my youngest sister's upcoming new arrival. We visited and ate yummy food at California Pizza Kitchen. Then returned to her house to visit some more and eat delicious chocolate cupcakes that I'm sure added a few pounds.
Friday my younger brother and I took his and my kids and went to the BYU Art Museum and then on to the Bean Museum. I'm sure all that walking burned off at least a little of the food from the night before. And then Friday night we drove up to West Jordan to visit a dear friend and her family. She made a yummy dinner and we got to visit for a while before I had to head back to my parents. On the drive back to Payson all I could think was how was I going to talk Mr. Man in to moving back to Utah, even though I know that is so not going to happen.
Saturday was supposed to be the day the we returned home, but my kids decided that they needed one more day with their cousins. During our visit we stayed upstairs at my parents house. They are currently in Russia on a mission so we missed getting to see them. My younger brother and his family live downstairs taking care of my parents house for them. It was lovely having them there. I got to know my 3 cute little nieces so much better and enjoyed getting all the loves that they were willing to share. And Miss Magoo loved having a cousins right downstairs to play with. So Miss Magoo wasn't exactly ready to leave her new found cousins. And PJ just wasn't looking forward to the drive back home. Later Saturday afternoon we go a nice surprise when my older sister and 3 of her kids showed up for a visit and dinner. I loved getting to spend time with my sisters ( love my brothers too, but there is just something about sisters) it was so great to get to sit and talk to them in person not just through a phone. And to actually spend time with 3 of my sisters at once was fabulous.
And then on the drive home we got to enjoy a nice spring snow storm. No, really I enjoyed the blowing snow (*note sarcasm*). And if I knew the name of the driver in the little green pick-up I'd send him a nice thank you note. He was driving so steadily through it I figured he knew what he was doing and I just followed him through most of the storm. It was strangely calming having that truck in front of me while I was dealing with the HEAVILY blowing snow and the other crazy drivers.
When we got home it was to a cleanish house, laundry done, dishes done, and fresh cookies waiting for us on the counter, and of course Mr. Man I missed him most of all. I am so HAPPY to be home.

Say What???
Friday as I was driving into Boise with Miss Magoo in the backseat I heard her singing to herself, which is nothing new for her. But as I started to listen closely to what she was singing I had to laugh. She was singing "Follow the Prophet" and when she got to the chorus instead of singing "follow the prophet and don't go a stray" she was singing" follow the Prophet and just hit a stray.." It made much more sense to her that way she says.

My New Favorite Author
I have a new favorite author, Mary Pope Osborne, the author of “The Magic Tree House” series. I’ll admit to never having read an entire book of hers, just a couple of pages here and there. No, my son is the one that reads her books, he’s hooked. His 2nd grade teacher recommended Mrs. Pope Osborne’s books to me at our parent-teacher conference last Sept. She said they were just perfect for his age. And was she right. PJ devours her books, sometimes in one sitting. We recently found the books on cd, and he was in heaven. He pulled out the first book and proceeded to read along with the cd. He loves to tell me all about the latest book that he’s just finished reading, and I love to hear him get so excited about reading. Thank you Mary Pope Osborne for getting my son to love reading, you are my hero!

A New Year
I’ve really debated about if I was going to make any resolutions this year. See some years I’ve made them and haven’t even made it through the end of January before dumping them. And other years I haven’t made them but realized at the end of the year I did good on things that I had wanted to do good on, so good they really should have of been my goals all along. But this year I’ve decided to be simple with my goals for the year.
Be Happy, no REALLY happy
Stress less (which really goes along with being happy)
Smile more, give more hugs
Have more music around the house (just discovered Sirius on our TV, so cool!!)
Sing to my kids more, they don’t care that I can’t carry a tune
Dance with my husband, even if it’s just around the house
Read to my kids more.
Really that’s it, I want a more positive year. At the end of 2009 I want to look back a have some really great memories of the things that I did with my family.
